Specifications
Description
This is a Handyman's Special. The boat is being SOLD AS IS WHERE IS.
The boat has been on the hard for 6 yrs now but with some love and attention can easily be returned to its former glory. The Pictures Attached are Current Condition. Owner has been down to the boat and has checked out engine. Motor rolls over easily, one injector was replaced and one was rebuilt, fuel tanks have been full since boat was hauled and no signs of fuel being bad. All of the cushions for the fly bridge and the canvas for the Bimini top have been stored away and should be fine. Below is her in all her glory. Don't be afraid to make her great again. Owner is ready to move on and wants to sell. She just need s some good old fashion elbow grease and the will to do it.
Windborne has a rare 4-cabin design. Like most boats in her class, she has a walk-around queen in the captain’s cabin, and a settee that doubles as a second cabin. However, Windborne’s third cabin is not the awkward crawl-in V-berth found in most trawlers. Instead, the bow is split down the middle into 2 forward cabins each with a pullout double-berth and tall 6’6” ceilings, making for a total of 4 cabins. Other features not commonly found on comparable boats include the spacious Galley-Up kitchen and the ample seating on the Extended Fly Bridge. Many of these features did not become commonplace until long after this unique Ed Monk design for Ocean Alexander.
FLAT BOW: Ed Monk improved the standard forward deck for Ocean Alexander. Rather than the up-n-down dog-house style typical on V-berth trawlers, Windborne has a sleek flat forward deck which makes for obstruction-free anchoring and comfortable sunbathing. The windlass is the powerful, horizontal 1500w Loftrans Falcon. There’s a 60# CQR and a 55# Delta with all-chain rode.
EXTENDED FLY BRIDGE: Unlike the fly bridge on most trawlers, Windborne does not have two small bench seats where 8 passengers can sit back to back to each other. Rather, Windborne has 20’ of pontoon-boat-style perimeter seating, which allows 16 passengers to talk comfortably while facing each other. The extended flybridge includes a 5’ table, an icemaker and a BBQ making it a great place for entertaining.
TRUNK DECK & COCKPIT: The stern deck is very functional with dingy davits, a swing door to the swim platform (another nice design feature), a boom with a block & tackle (top left), a 5’ deck box, and a 4’ deck box below (obscured from view), and a large lazarette in the fishing cockpit.
Starting from the bow…
GUEST HEAD has a basin, toilet and shower, with an overhead hatch, 2 portals, and lots of cabinets. Behind the front wall is a large, split, chain locker.
PORT CABIN: Each of the two front cabins have sliding Pullman beds (beds closed in photos), which pull out to make enough room to sleep two adults comfortably. There is a hatch, two portals, all with screens, in each room, plus a reading light, retractable clothes-hanging lines and a fan above the bed.
STARBOARD CABIN: Each forward cabin has a large mirror on the centerline dividing wall, a hanging locker, and drawers and cabinets under the bed. A separated reverse cycle A/C unit provides heating and cooling to the forward cabins.
SALON & LOWER HELM: There’s lots of redundancy at the helm, with 2 depth finders, a Garmin chart plotter and a Furuno GPS Navigation, two VHF radios, a 24-mile radar, rear view TV, ST7000 Autohelm, Lacross Weather Station, Ships Clock and Barometer, and two 10CD player/radios (one for the galley and one for the flybridge).
BRIGHT & AIRY GALLEY-UP: Unlike the small U-shaped galley-down kitchens commonly found in many trawlers, Windbone has a spacious galley-up design. It’s 2 ports, and 15 windows keep it light, bright and airy. The L-shaped galley has ample counter space. Off to the left is a 3 burner stove and oven, a double sink. The large and deep refrigerator is lower left, and the large top-loading cold-plate freezer is in front.
GALLEY AFT: Here you can see the Microwave oven (top left), three deep cabinets (top middle), and the washer/dryer (bottom right). You can also see the two top hatches for the freezer (lower center), and the hatch for the in-counter drink cooler (lower left). A sliding door separates the aft cabin from the salon.
CONVERTIBLE SETTEE: The table folds out to be 5’ long and will accommodate 6 adults comfortably (you can squeeze 8 adults in). There’s lots of storage under the settee seats and the table drops down to make a long double bed.
CAPTAINS STATE ROOM: On each side of the walk-around Queen-size bed are a bank of drawers and cabinets. A third port leads up to the stern, and there’s a flat file for your chartbooks, and room for 16 boxes of spare parts under the bed, including electrical, plumbing, spare bulbs, and spare engine, genset and dingy parts. Reverse cycle air conditioning provides cooling or heating.
CAPTAINS HEAD: The head in the Captain’s Suite has a basin, cabinets, Electrasan electric head, and a stall shower.
CHILD-FRIENDLY SIDE RAILS: Unlike most trawlers, this OA has full-sideboards and rail which come up more the 36”, making this boat very children-friendly and safe.
OFF-SHORE READY: The boat has been to the Dominican Republic and back, and it’s set up for long-term cruising, with lots of spare parts, extra prop, etc.
FUEL-SIPPING LEHMAN: The fuel sipping Lehman burns around 1.5-2.5 gallons an hour. Though the boat is 44' long, that's about the same fuel consumption as a 34', but it’s much more seaworthy and comfortable than the smaller trawler.
ENGINE ROOM: The engine room is clean, and roomy. There’s a fuel polisher and 3-stage fuel filter system, automatic oil-change pump, an 8kw Northern Lights genset, new hot water heater, two 16000BTU AC/heater units, 40amp battery charger, refrigerator compressor, a new cutlass bearing etc.
GENERAL INFORMATION:
3-4 CABINS: This trawler has an extra cabin that other trawlers in its class do not have. The Captain’s State Room sports a walk-around queen-size bed and private bathroom with a tub/shower, toilet and sink, but what makes this trawler unique are the two forward cabins, which which are unusually large for this size boat. Each cabin has a double pull-out bed allowing 3 couples to share the boat comfortably. The settee in the salon converts into a long bed also making this the perfect set up for family: aft room for the captain and first mate, a forward room for both the parents and the kids, and even an extra sleeping berth in the galley.
ROOM FOR YOU, THE KIDS, & GRANDKIDS: With two forward cabins, you can invite the kids and grandkids over, and have them tucked away in separate rooms – without anyone sleeping in the salon.
TWO HEADs give you both redundancy and privacy. The aft one is part of the Master Suite, while the forward one serves the crew.
SPACIOUS INSIDE AND OUT: The current owners said they were “the envy of the Bahamas.” The ample storage allowed them to serve meals that would be extravagant to most boaters. The open interior space, and large flybridge made the boat a favorite place for get-togethers while at anchor or when docked.
EXTRA-LARGE FLYBRIDGE GREAT FOR ENTERTAINING: Unlike other fly-bridges in its class with two back-to-back seats, this fly-bridge is laid out like a pontoon boat, with seating for 16 adults, a card-playing table, and LOTS of under-seat storage.
SEATING: There are three 6’ long benches, and one 4’ bench surrounding the flybridge, plus the Captain’s seat.
LARGE GAME TABLE: The 32”x60” table is great for playing cards, games, or entertaining.
ICEMAKE & SS BBQ: In the cabinet on the right is a Raritan Icemaker with a Stainless Steel BBQ on top.
DUEL-ALUMINUM PROPANE TANKS are housed in the white box (bottom right) with regulator and gauges, one for the stove/oven and the other for the BBQ.
HELM STATION: At the helm is a full set of duplicate gauges (same as at the lower helm) including controls for both the windlass and the hydraulic stern-thrusters.
MUSIC: There’s a 10 CD player/radio with Bose speakers.
FLYBRIDGE ENCLOSURE can be walled off in front of icemaker and includes screens.
Galley
Unlike the tiny, U-shaped galley-down kitchens on similar boats, this boat has an L-shape, galley-up, with more counter space than many homes. There are lots of bright sliding windows, and a roomy convertible settee, with a 5’ table, that seats 6-8 adults. Its’ huge freezer and large refrigerator make long-term cruising a delight.

Comments
”Windborne” is a very spacious and capable cruising trawler. She has had three very knowledgeable owners in the past and has been well equipped for extended long-range cruising and living aboard. The hull gelcoat is overdue for compound and polish and may need to be painted. The fly bridge surround and the deckhouse could use a coat of paint. The deck non-skid needs to be renewed. The Heart Inverter was removed, and AGM batteries were installed, but the Inverter Control Panel, and the Link 2000 Battery Monitor we retained. The mechanical systems have been rolled over a couple times a year. The mild steel fuel tanks had some rust but no apparent leaks and seem to be serviceable, and have been repainted. Inspection plates were added in 2007 and the inside of the tanks were cleaned. The engine hour meter shows approximately 2100 hours which has not been verified. Windborne just needs you to bring her back to life and put some love in her. IF you are looking for a great live aboard or a coastal traveler. This is the one for you. Call today before it is gone.
